The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against the fourth-ranked University of Indianapolis Greyhounds on April 18 at the UMSL Softball Field. The Tritons fell to a season record of 19-19 overall and 12-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Greyhounds improved to 44-3 overall and 19-1 in conference play.

The matchup highlighted challenges for the Tritons as they faced one of the top teams in their conference. With postseason play approaching, these results may impact standings and seeding within the GLVC.

In game one, UIndy took an early lead with a two-run home run by Cheyenne Eads in the first inning and added three more runs in the third inning through hits by Josie Jager and Paige Vickery. The Tritons managed their only run in the sixth inning when Phoebe Miller singled to bring Kodie VanEycke home. Ashley Borowitz pitched three innings for UMSL, allowing five runs on five hits and recording one strikeout.

Game two saw another strong performance from UIndy, who scored seven runs in the third inning after Shelby Cook’s solo home run opened scoring in the second. Brooklyn Willis contributed with a bases-clearing double during that rally. The Tritons responded with two runs in their half of the third, helped by singles from Kaytie Kossina and Gracie Philpot taking advantage of an error. Kenzie Stoltz drove in two more runs for UMSL later on, while Jamie Widule brought home another score late in the game. Sasha Buckberger took her fourth loss after pitching nearly three innings and giving up seven runs on six hits.

The Tritons are scheduled to continue their six-game homestand with a doubleheader against Lewis University starting at noon Sunday at UMSL Softball Field.
