The University of Missouri-St. Louis softball team split its doubleheader against Quincy at the Mart Heinen Softball Complex in Quincy, Illinois, on April 26. The Tritons won the first game 5-4 but lost the second contest 8-7.

This result leaves UMSL with a record of 24-22 overall and 17-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Quincy stands at 8-40 overall and 4-20 in conference play.

In the opening game, UMSL took an early lead with runs from Kaytie Kossina and Kenzie Stoltz in the first inning. Quincy responded with an RBI double from Hailee Irby before tying and eventually taking a brief lead later in the game. Madison Rozanski’s sacrifice fly tied it for UMSL in the sixth inning, and Maddie Illingworth put them ahead with a solo home run in the seventh. Phoebe Miller added an insurance run before Ashley Borowitz closed out the win for her eighth victory of the season.

The second game saw Quincy jump to a quick three-run lead before UMSL rallied to tie it up behind hits from Kiley Sullivan and Illingworth. The teams traded leads throughout, highlighted by Sullivan’s grand slam for UMSL in the fifth inning. However, Quincy came back late with three runs in their final at-bat to secure an 8-7 walk-off win.

UMSL will return home on Saturday, May 2, to host Truman State for a doubleheader beginning at noon at UMSL Softball Field.
