The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team extended its winning streak to three games with a doubleheader sweep against Lincoln on April 25 at the UMSL Baseball Field. The Tritons won the first game 11-0 and the second game 1-0, improving their record to 26-19 overall and 20-7 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Blue Tigers fell to 6-37 overall and remain winless in conference play.

With these two victories, Missouri-St. Louis moved into sole possession of second place in the GLVC Baseball standings, just one game behind Missouri S&T for first place after Maryville and Missouri S&T split their own doubleheader.

In Game 1, an error by Lincoln’s Blythe Blakey opened the door for a six-run first inning for the Tritons. Justin Simard’s grounder led to two runs scoring after Blakey’s miscue, followed by RBI hits from Luke Saxton and Brandon Johnson that brought in additional runs. Pitcher Eli Cartwright struck out nine batters over five innings while allowing only one hit, earning his seventh win of the season.

Game 2 was a close contest decided by Cade Grevengoed’s fifth-inning double and subsequent run scored on Johnson’s single down the left field line. Bryce Nicolay pitched five scoreless innings before Dustin Hagens came on in relief to retire all six hitters he faced, securing his sixth save of the year.

The series between Missouri-St. Louis and Lincoln will conclude with a single game scheduled for Sunday at noon at UMSL Baseball Field.
