The Missouri men’s golf team is set to begin its campaign for a conference title as it opens play at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championship on April 21. The tournament will take place at the Sea Island Golf Club, with tee times starting at 7 a.m. Central Time.
The SEC Championship consists of three days of stroke play, after which the top eight teams will advance to match play. Quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, with the championship round on Sunday. The final match will be broadcast live on SEC Network, while Saturday’s semifinals can be viewed on SEC Network+.
Sea Island Golf Club has been recognized as the top golf hotel in the United States by Golf Digest Index and features three championship courses. This year’s competition course is a par-70 layout measuring 7,005 yards.
This season’s field is considered highly competitive, including four schools ranked in the national top five, ten in the top twenty, and fourteen in the top fifty. Missouri enters its thirteenth SEC Championship since joining the conference in 2012 and ninth since adopting a combined stroke play and match play format. The Tigers have previously reached quarterfinals three times: in 2017, 2022, and 2023.
Veikka Viskari has led Missouri throughout this season with a stroke average of 71.90 and has secured one individual title along with three top-10 finishes. He led team scoring in six out of ten tournaments this year and finished among the top two Mizzou players each time. Teammates Trent Mierl (73.03 average) and Virgilio Paz (73.47 average) also contributed significantly to team scoring.
Missouri heads into this week’s championship following its best performance of the season—winning the Tiger Intercollegiate earlier this month by seven strokes over Iowa State for their first title of this campaign. Viskari claimed his first collegiate victory there; Esteban Cruz Bonilla finished third overall and was named SEC Freshman of the Week after his first collegiate top-five finish.
