The Missouri Job Center in Springfield will temporarily relocate its operations to the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library from April 30 through May 8 as a new phase of roof replacement begins at its current facility, according to an April 27 announcement. The center’s hours during this period will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This temporary move is necessary because crews will be replacing a section of the roof adjacent to the public entrance along Boonville Avenue, which is expected to significantly disrupt foot traffic into and out of the building. Ericka Schmeeckle, Assistant Director of Economic Vitality and Workforce Development for the City of Springfield, said, “Crews will be replacing a section of roof next to the public entrance along Boonville Avenue, which will create a major disruption to foot traffic in and out of the building.” Schmeeckle also said, “We thought it was in everyone’s best interest to temporarily move operations to the library to avoid the disruption.”

While at the library location, staff will continue offering all regular services such as job search assistance, unemployment filing support, enrollment in job training programs, career assessment tools and free career readiness workshops. Schmeeckle expressed appreciation for community partners by saying, “We are grateful to our partners at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library for providing the space so we may continue to serve the public.” She added that weather could affect construction timelines: “Roof replacement is subject to the weather, so we will keep everyone informed if we have to stay at the library after May 8.”

Updates about progress on roof repairs and any changes in operating locations or schedules will be shared via Missouri Job Center’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages.
