Missouri baseball lost the first game of its three-game Southeastern Conference series against No. 5 Georgia by a score of 4-0 on Friday night at Foley Field, according to a May 1 announcement.

The result puts the Tigers at a season record of 21-24 overall and 4-18 in conference play. The matchup was notable as Missouri faced one of the nation’s most powerful offenses but managed to keep the game close for much of the evening.

Right-handed pitcher Josh McDevitt started for Missouri and limited Georgia, who lead the nation in home runs, to just one run on four hits over six and one-third innings. He also struck out six batters without allowing a walk. Despite several opportunities with runners on base, Missouri could not produce timely hits and left multiple runners stranded throughout the game.

Georgia took an early lead after Kenny Ishikawa tripled in the fifth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Black. In relief, Juan Villarreal allowed three runs over one and two-thirds innings, including a solo home run by Michael O’Shaughnessy that extended Georgia’s advantage.

Both teams finished with six hits each. The Tigers received contributions from Jase Woita, Kam Durnin, Blaize Ward, Mateo Serna, Kaden Peer, and Donovan Jordan—each recording one hit from their spots atop the batting order.

Missouri will continue its series against Georgia at Foley Field on Saturday afternoon for game two. All games are available for streaming through SECN+ or can be heard via Varsity Network by Learfield.
