MFA Incorporated announced on Apr. 20 that it has agreed to sell its interest in the Mid-State Seed facility in Marshall, Missouri, to Indiana-based Beck’s. The sale is part of a broader change in how MFA processes seed and aims to better align the cooperative’s seed processing capacity with current market needs and future requirements.

The move matters because it reflects a shift in strategy for MFA, which serves more than 45,000 farmer-owners according to the official website. By selling the facility and working with contract seed processors, MFA seeks to continue providing economic benefits through cooperative purchasing and sales for its members.

MFA stated that MorSoy soybeans and other proprietary lines will still be processed through established contract seed processors. All previously committed MorSoy processing for 2026 will be completed at Mid-State, while alternative arrangements have been secured for production starting with the 2027 growing season. The company said this transition will not affect the MorSoy brand or seed availability for customers.

“We appreciate the contributions of the Mid-State team over the years and their role in supporting this operation. After careful evaluation, we determined that our relationships with contract seed processors deliver the best strategy for MFA to provide seed genetics that fit our customers’ needs,” said Jason Weirich, chief operating officer for MFA Incorporated. “Sale of the facility allows us to responsibly transition this operation while maintaining continuity for our customers.”

Weirich also said, “MFA Incorporated remains committed to our seed business. This decision strengthens our ability to serve farmers long term.”

The organization functions as a farmer-owned cooperative led by a board of 14 elected farmers who offer governance and strategic oversight as representatives of its owners according to its official website. Founded in 1914, MFA provides agronomy services, livestock nutrition solutions, grain marketing and farm supplies across Missouri and neighboring Midwest states according to its official website.

The sale is expected to close later this year pending customary closing conditions. MFA plans ongoing communication with stakeholders during this transition.
