New and returning members of the Lebanon City Council were sworn in during the regular council meeting held on April 13. The oath of office was administered by City Clerk Lacey Brackett.

Each year, voters in Lebanon select one councilmember from each ward. This year’s election resulted in two newly elected officials and two incumbents returning to their positions.

The councilmembers who took the oath are Jaret Scharnhorst for Ward 1 and Joe Berkich for Ward 2, both newly elected, along with Jeff Mutchler for Ward 3 and Chuck Jordan for Ward 4, who are returning members.

During the meeting, Mayor Jared Carr recognized outgoing Ward 2 Councilmember Sheila Mitchell for her service spanning more than a decade. Mitchell received her council nameplate and photo as well as the Mayor’s Silver Leaf Award for Outstanding Service “in appreciation of her dedication to the community.”

The Council also honored Gib Adkins, former Ward 1 Councilmember who passed away in December. Adkins served over thirty years in various roles within the community, including nine years on the City Council. His seat was formally retired at the meeting, with his nameplate and photo presented to his wife Angie Adkins. She also received the Mayor’s Silver Leaf Award “in memory of Gib Adkins in recognition of his years of service to the Lebanon community.”

The city stated it looks forward to continued work by its councilmembers on behalf of residents.
