Lasse Funck wins second straight 1500m at Rock Chalk Classic

Missouri track and field athlete Lasse Funck won his second consecutive 1500-meter race on May 1 at the Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence, Kansas. Funck finished with a personal best time of 3:41.25, which is the second-fastest mark in Missouri program history.

Funck’s performance follows his earlier victory at the Drake Relays, where he posted a time of 3:43.97. The achievement highlights continued success for the senior runner as he leads Missouri’s distance squad.

Other notable results from day one included Tyler Freiner finishing second in the men’s 5000 meters with a personal record of 14:06.70, placing him tenth all-time for Missouri. Elissa Barnard set a personal best in the women’s 1500 meters with a time of 4:39.68 to finish twelfth, while Natalie Barnard achieved her own best mark by running fourth in the women’s 5000 meters at 17:15.57.

Sophomore Charlotte Cullen competed unattached and won both the women’s 1500 and 5000 meter events, setting a personal record of 16:45.29 in the latter race.

In field events, Kaitlyn Morningstar led Missouri women to silver in hammer throw with a mark of 52.48 meters, while Sam Innes earned silver for men with a throw of 67.84 meters. Garik Pozecki finished fourth among men with a personal-best throw that ranks ninth all-time for Missouri.

The Tigers also filled out top spots in javelin throws on both sides; Morgan Cannon led women’s javelin efforts finishing second overall followed closely by Val Galligan and Marysa Flieg.

Competition continues at Rock Chalk Park as Missouri returns for day two beginning at noon.
