Jonathan Jordan led the Missouri State men’s golf team on Apr. 20 during the first two rounds of the Hawkeye Invitational in Riverside, Iowa. The sophomore from Rolla, Missouri, shot two rounds of 73 for a total score of 146 and is tied for 19th place going into the final round.
The performance matters as it positions Jordan among the top competitors in a field that includes several strong teams. The Bears as a team recorded scores of 310 and 303, totaling 613 after two rounds. They are tied for 13th place with Valparaiso ahead of Tuesday’s final round, which will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
Host school Iowa holds a narrow lead over Southern Illinois with scores of 565 and 567 respectively. South Dakota State and DePaul are tied at third with scores of 581 each, while Drake follows closely at fifth with a score of 583 out of the fourteen teams competing.
Other Missouri State golfers include junior Owen Swearingen, who is second on his team and tied for fifty-second overall after shooting an opening round of eighty-one followed by seventy-two for a total score of one hundred fifty-three. Max Bowman stands in sixty-eighth place after posting seventy-eight and seventy-nine for one hundred fifty-seven. Freshman Noah Naugle scored eighty and seventy-nine (one hundred fifty-nine), while senior Christian Rischer carded seventy-nine and eighty-two (one hundred sixty-one).
The tournament continues Tuesday morning as teams look to improve their standings in the final round.
