U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has disclosed a new whistleblower allegation claiming that the Secret Service refused to provide former President Donald Trump with the necessary resources and manpower for a rally in Wisconsin, leading to the event’s cancellation.
In a letter addressed to Acting Director Ronald L. Rowe, Jr., Senator Hawley referenced Rowe’s statements from a September 20 press conference. “At your recent press conference on September 20, you stated that former President Trump is receiving ‘the highest level of Secret Service protection’ and ‘he’s getting everything’ that ‘the current president has with respect to Secret Service assets,'” wrote Hawley.
Hawley continued, “Yet according to a whistleblower with direct knowledge of the exchange, Secret Service recently told the Trump campaign that it did not have sufficient assets to secure a potential campaign rally in Wisconsin for the former president.”
The letter raises concerns about whether the Secret Service’s actions align with its public statements regarding the security provided to former President Trump. It also questions if this situation might impact Trump’s presidential campaign activities.
Hawley’s letter further states: “That same night, Secret Service secured a rally for Vice President Harris in Madison, Wisconsin.” He added that other whistleblowers familiar with Secret Service protocols allege that denying protection for a major public event is highly unusual and would not happen for a sitting president.
Senator Hawley has requested specific information from Acting Director Rowe within seven days, including whether the Secret Service ever informed Trump’s campaign or related entities that it could not secure an event in Wisconsin and if similar denials have been made to President Biden or Vice President Harris.
