The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce announced on April 20 a series of upcoming events and initiatives for its Centurions Leadership Program, highlighting opportunities for community engagement, leadership development, and dialogue on civic issues.

These activities are part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to prepare emerging leaders in the region and foster meaningful connections among professionals. The Centurions program is designed as a two-year experience focused on building awareness through civic involvement and addressing issues affecting Greater Kansas City.

Among the scheduled events is a screening of “Land of Opportunity: The Road of Resistance, Part I” with filmmaker Nico Giles. Inspired by Richard Rothstein’s book “The Color of Law,” the documentary examines how urban renewal policies, including the construction of Highway 71 in Kansas City, led to the displacement of more than 10,000 families. Following the film, Giles will discuss his process and lead a conversation about these policies’ lasting effects.

Other notable programs include an information session social at the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy for those interested in joining Centurions; an advocacy panel exploring immigration challenges in Kansas City; and “A Century of Stewardship,” which marks 100 years since Kansas City’s adoption of its council-manager form of government with a discussion featuring Mayor Quinton Lucas and City Manager Mario Vasquez.

Leadership development remains central to these offerings. Dr. Rochelle Parker, CEO of Girl Scouts NE Kansas and NW Missouri, will speak at a Leadership Up Close event about professional alignment and authenticity in leadership roles. In addition to educational sessions, alumni are invited to reconnect over coffee at an informal gathering later this spring.

Applications are now open for the Apex 2026-2027 Legacy Project—an annual initiative where Centurions volunteers partner with one local nonprofit to deliver lasting benefits to the community. This opportunity is available to all area nonprofits seeking support from engaged civic leaders.
