Freshmen lead Missouri State Bears on second day of CUSA men’s golf tournament

The Missouri State men’s golf team was led by two freshmen, Noah Naugle and Pedro Gallegos, on Apr. 28 during the second day of the Conference USA Championship at Texarkana Country Club.

The team’s performance is notable as it highlights the contributions of its younger players in a competitive collegiate tournament. Naugle and Gallegos each shot a three-over-par 75 for the round, helping Missouri State to a team score of 302. The Bears remain in 11th place with a total score of 606 after two days.

Naugle has posted rounds of 79 and 75 for a total of 154, placing him tied for 51st individually. Gallegos improved from his previous round and now sits in 54th place with a total score of 156. Sophomore Jonathan Jordan continues to lead Missouri State overall with rounds of 71 and 76, totaling 147 and tying him for 37th place. Senior Christian Rischer is tied for 48th after shooting identical rounds of 76 (152 total), while junior Owen Swearingen is in the mix at position No.53 with scores of 78 and77 (155 total).

In team standings, UTEP moved into sole possession of first place after being tied with New Mexico State overnight. UTEP leads by six strokes over New Mexico State (550-556), followed by Western Kentucky (567), Middle Tennessee (569), and Liberty (570) rounding out the top five.

The final round is scheduled to begin Wednesday at8a.m., starting from both no.1and10tees.
