Missouri State University’s Curry Sutherland was named the national John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week by the College Baseball Foundation on April 21.
The recognition highlights Sutherland’s performance both at bat and on the mound, underscoring his contribution to Missouri State’s baseball team this season.
According to the university, this is Sutherland’s first time receiving this award. He is also the second Missouri State player to earn it during this season, following Max Knight who received it on Feb. 17. Over a weekend series against Western Kentucky, Sutherland started all three games at third base, recording five hits in fourteen at-bats with two home runs, a double, and five runs batted in. He did not commit any errors defensively and achieved his first career multi-home run game during Sunday’s matchup.
On Saturday, pitching for Missouri State, Sutherland threw three shutout innings in extra frames against Western Kentucky. He allowed only one hit and struck out three batters while securing the win by keeping Western Kentucky scoreless from innings ten through twelve.
The Bears currently hold a record of 26 wins and 11 losses overall and are 14-4 in Conference USA play. The team is set to begin a four-game road trip with an away game at No. 24 Arkansas scheduled for Tuesday evening.
