Liam Doyle, the No. 2 prospect for the St. Louis Cardinals and ranked No. 29 by MLB Pipeline, pitched four innings of one-run baseball on Apr. 20 during a Double-A Springfield game against Wichita.
Doyle’s performance marks an improvement after a challenging start to his first full professional season. He allowed only two hits, struck out five batters, and walked one. Despite his efforts on the mound, Springfield fell to Wichita with a final score of 3-1.
Doyle began the game by retiring the first six batters he faced before giving up a single at the start of the third inning. Although Ricardo Olivar advanced to third base and scored on a wild pitch from Doyle, he finished that frame with two strikeouts and limited further damage.
In his final inning of work, Doyle induced two outs before allowing another single but concluded his outing with another strikeout. This start came after Doyle had allowed nine runs (seven earned) across just over three innings in his previous appearances this season.
Sunday’s performance lowered Doyle’s earned run average from 17.18 to 9.39 as he continues adjusting to professional play following his selection as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2025 Draft out of Tennessee.
